Once you have made the decision you want to lose weight or get back into shape, you then decide to hire a personal trainer. If you have ever been to the gym then you know how different each trainer can be. I am going to list an on going series of posts looking at different things to look for in hiring a personal trainer.
The first thing is what they are going to do with you towards your goals. What I mean is the average personal trainer only work weight lifting with most clients. Unless, you want to be a bodybuilder than there is more to a successful fitness plan than lifting weights.
If you goal is to lose weight than one thing to know that heart rate interval training is the most effective way to lose weight. This isn't using the charts on the treadmill. I would make sure your trainer understand how to do effective cardio. A good personal trainer who truly understands how to achieve weight loss results will do cardio with during your session and it isn't an after thought once the weight training is done.
I look for this knowledge which seperates almost every trainer in the gym. There probably is only one or no trainers in a gym that understand how to do effective cardio. It is considered the biggest gap in the personal trainer industry. This also what I would look for in an online personal trainer.
